Babirekere joined UMWA in 2003 as project officer for Get Smart Rural Women’s Project aimed to help the rural women have timely and relevant information about government program and policies. Her major duties are coordinating Get Smart activities, development of Get Smart work plan and training manuals, training of field staff, supervising field activities and writing reports. Previously, she worked for as personnel officer with Coffee Marketing Board, data editor with Electoral Commission; gender specialist at UNDP/UNV, and later designated gender officer / training manager and gender specialist with Trust Consult Ltd.
Ms. Babirekere has handled various consultancy assignments which include research on the impact of HIV/AIDS in the agricultural sector, integrating HIV/gender into livestock systems, gender mainstreaming in farmers organizations in four regions (central, east, west and north) and facilitating national workshops on equipping farmers organizations with gender analysis and planning skills.
Clothilda Babirekere has professional training in rural participatory methodologies, FAO/IP program both acquired at Mukono District Farm Institute, gender and management “Integrating gender into the project cycle” at Makerere University and training of trainers course at Uganda National Farmer’s Association (UNFA). She holds an MA in gender and women studies and Bachelor of arts degree majoring in political science and literature both at Makerere University.
