UMWA carries out this activity to empower its members, staff and the rest of the media fraternity in current development issues including world trends. Some of the trainings done so far are leadership and team building, participatory planning and monitoring, parliamentary reporting, advocacy and lobbying, court reporting, public speaking, rights based approach to development and applying human rights to governance.
Through its sponsorship scheme, UMWA has managed to contribute to the increase in the number of trained women journalists in Uganda. So far 45 women have benefited from this scheme and as a result other media women have been empowered to invest in their education. UMWA has also imparted women with skills in leadership, advocacy, gender awareness and monitoring.
